Polyphenol-Packed Cocoa Protein Bowl 🍫🫐

Polyphenol-Packed Cocoa Protein Bowl 🍫🫐

A creamy, chocolatey breakfast bowl layered with protein, fibre, satisfying seeds, banana, and colourful berries. It’s an easy way to add more polyphenol-rich foods to your day—no blender required!

Why this bowl is polyphenol-rich

In our previous article, we explored what polyphenols are and why these naturally occurring plant compounds are worth including in a varied, colourful diet. This recipe puts that knowledge into practice with two delicious sources: cocoa powder and fresh mixed berries. Add in some serious nutrient density from  Organic Traditions Mind Fuel Mix, and you’ve got a bowl packed with protein, flavonoids, and anthocyanins.

Research continues to explore how dietary polyphenols interact with processes related to oxidative stress, inflammation, cardiovascular health, and the gut microbiome—but as always, no single food tells the whole story. The most beneficial approach is to enjoy a wide variety of plant foods as part of an overall nourishing eating pattern.

 Polyphenol-Packed Cocoa Protein Bowl

Prep time: 5 minutes

 Ingredients

- 2 cups Riviera Coconut Yogurt or Liberte Greek Yogurt

- 1 scoop protein powder of choice

- 1  tsp Organic Traditions Mind Fuel

- ½  tsp Cocoa Powder

- 1 tbsp chia seeds

- 2 tbsp hemp hearts

- 1 banana, sliced

- Fresh mixed berries

- Optional: maple syrup, for drizzling

 Method

1. In a medium bowl, stir together the yogurt, protein powder, Mind Fuel mix

2. Sprinkle Chia Seeds and Hemp hearts

3. Top with sliced banana and a generous handful of fresh mixed berries.

4. Finish with a drizzle of maple syrup, if desired.

5. Enjoy right away, or cover and refrigerate for 15–30 minutes to allow the chia seeds to soften and thicken the bowl slightly.

 Make it your own

- Extra chocolatey: Add few cacao nibs.

- More crunch: Top with toasted coconut, pumpkin seeds, or chopped walnuts.

Chia seeds and hemp hearts add Omegas and texture to make this bowl more satisfying, while yogurt and protein powder help create a creamy, protein-rich base. Canada’s Food Guide also encourages regularly including fruits, vegetables, and protein foods as part of a nourishing eating pattern.
