6 New Ways to Start Eating Apples

6 New Ways to Start Eating Apples

We all know the old adage: an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Being packed with vitamin C and fibre, they are beneficial in many ways to help keep our health in check. But admit it: chomping down on an apple each day can get a bit boring—plus, apples are healthier when eating with fat and protein instead of on their own! Take a look at these 6 new ways to enjoy the goodness of apples.

Juices: juicing is a great way to get nutrients into your body, and also increase your consumption of fruits and vegetables in a delicious, easy way! Some people enjoy the practice of doing juice cleanses, during which they only consume juices, and others enjoy juices on a regular basis as part of a healthy diet. Apples are a great way to sweeten any juice. We have a great recipe for a Pick Me Up Juice that includes apples, beets, carrots, and ginger—perfect for this time of year!

Muffins: moving on to breakfast, apples can play a star role in many ways, including muffins. One of our favourite recipes is our gluten free Morning Glory Muffins that incorporate grated apple into the batter before the muffins are baked. It adds sweetness and a hit of flavour! Plus, these muffins are made with almond flour and a number of nuts, seeds, and even carrot for a healthy on-the-go breakfast or snack.

Salad: have you ever thought about adding apple to your salad? Whether you chop it and throw it on top or grate it and mix it in, it tastes delicious. Or, incorporate apple cider vinegar into your salad dressing to kick the healthiness up a notch! You can find a recipe for a Carrot, Beet, and Apple Salad here that’s topped with feta and sunflower seeds. It really doesn’t get much better than that!

Baked Apple Chips: These Apple Chips make a great crunchy snack for kids as an alternative to potato chips. Homemade, sweet, and crunchy, and without any refined sugar. In fact, you might want to gobble them up before your kids even have a chance!

Pizza: what can’t you put on pizza these days? For one of our recent Nourish magazines, we concocted a delicious pizza with fresh organic apple, creamy brie, and savoury bacon as the star players. The combination of flavours is out-of-this-world and leaves you wanting more (is that a good or a bad thing? We’ll let you decide, there’s no judgement here!). Check out the recipe here, or try concocting your own combination with apple. What will you come up with?

Dip: so we’ve had apples in breakfast, dinner, drinks, salads, and snacks… why not appetizers, too? (Or should we say, apple-tizers?!) If you haven’t yet discovered the delicious combination of apples and cheese together, this is your chance! Our famous Apple Cheddar dip combines fresh organic grated apples and both raw milk cheddar and creamy goat cheese, along with a number of other seasonings and ingredients, for a dip that will be gone in minutes. Serve it at your next gathering and watch it disappear!
