Winter Skin

Winter Skin

“Winter is the time of stillness and rest; a deep, peaceful sigh of repose.” - Evan

Winter is a time for restoration.

As the earth goes quiet and dark, life retreats into itself to rest, rejuvenate, and prepare for the rebirth of spring. The abundance of night that winter offers is an invitation to slow down, sleep, dream and repair. It is an ideal time to create space in our lives for stillness, to lie fallow.

Winter skin reflects this state and asks for similar care — Simplicity. Rest. Deep Nourishment. The colder temperatures, and artificial heat, can zap skin of hydration, leaving us sensitive and depleted. The stress and over-indulgences of the holidays can create disharmony and inflammation. As winter drags on, lack of activity and sunshine can leave our skin dull and devitalized.

Our nourishing winter skin ritual empowers your skin to thrive during these cold, dark days

THE FOUNDATION OF CARING FOR WINTER SKIN

  • Create authentic moisture & hydration
  • Seal in hydration
  • Calm sensitivity
  • Enliven & Illuminate

Due to the dry, cold, and depleting nature of winter, winter skin often faces dryness and dehydration, dullness and inflammation. By remedying these imbalances, we are able to have skin that is healthy, supple, hydrated and luminous all winter long

PLANT ALLIES FOR WINTER SKIN

SHEA BUTTER

If there is one plant ingredient to work with for winter skin, it’s shea butter. This rich, luscious butter nourishes, protects, softens, soothes. It’s a natural occlusive, meaning that it seals in moisture and hydration, while allowing the skin to breathe. There’s no other singular ingredient that does such an exquisite job locking in moisture/hydration while also feeding the skin with deep nourishment. Aside from its delicious composition of fatty acids — like the über-protective and emollient stearic acid, and the deeply nourishing and moisturizing oleic acid — shea butter contains the compounds of lupeol, and alpha and beta-amyrin. These gems are known to pacify heat and create supreme harmony while encouraging the production and maintenance of collagen. Another special compound — cinnamic acid —provides light solar protective and regenerative qualities. Shea also contains phytosterols which are a category of lipids that help support and fortify the skin’s protective lipid barrier, while encouraging collagen production. Additionally, the vitamin E and beta-carotene in shea butter provide additional antioxidant support and gentle nourishment.

HYDROSOUL

Hydration is essential for keeping winter skin balanced, healthy and peaceful and there are no better hydrators than HydroSouls. These slightly acidic plant waters not only drench the skin inauthentic moisture, but they balance pH, tone, plump, and deliver unique therapeutic constituents from the plant into your skin. When many people believe their skin is dry (requiring more moisture/lipids) , it is actually just dehydrated. This is why HydroSouls are the missing link in so many people’s skin rituals.

ARGAN OIL

Argan oil is rich in essential fatty acids. It has a beautiful balance of omegas but is especially abundant in oleic acid (omega 9) — a key lipid that’s often deficient in dry skin. Hailing from the deserts of Morocco, argan is at home in the harshest and driest climates. Its diverse nutrient composition is ideal for skin that is irritated, dry, and compromised. Packed with vitamin (a protective antioxidant), squalene (skin-softening), and phytosterols (support proper barrier function). It is gentle, replenishing and our favorite oil for winter skin.

LAVENDER

Despite the occasional controversy of this plant, Lavender remains a true ally for calming irritation and sensitivity and is forever one our most beloved allies. It’s remarkable nature to pacify heat in the skin is unmatched and, especially in hydrosol form, it is like a refreshing drench of serenity to stressed, inflamed and sensitive skin

THE WINTER SKIN RITUAL

1.Cleanse

Cleanse morning and night with Cleansing Milk (Rose if your skin is more dry/oily/combination or Blue if your skin is sensitive and reactive or Simply Basic for irritated skin) to remove impurities and prepare skin for hydration, moisture, and nourishment. If your skin is extra finicky, dry, or sensitive, cleanse with Cleansing Milk in the evening, and in the morning cleanse with a simple saturation of HydroSoul, gently

removed with a soft cloth.

2. Hydrate / Moisturize / Nourish

After cleansing, mist face with HydroSoul. In the palm of your hand, add one to three pumps of Oil Serum and five or more sprays of HydroSoul. Blend the two together in your hands and gently press the warmed emulsion into skin.

3. Seal

To prevent trans epidermal water loss and secure the hydration and moisture created by your Oil Serum and Hydrosoul, you need to seal your skin with a protective butter or balm. Warm in palms and apply, or apply directly to skin from the tube, and then massage gently into skin. Finish with another misting of HydroSoul

ARIELLE’S WINTER SKIN RITUAL

As summer fades into fall, the bronzed tones and freckles of my sun-kissed skin start to fade and transition with the seasons. With that transition into winter comes a persistent and ever-escalating begging for moisture and brightening. “Feed me!” my skin screams, and evanhealy delivers in every way.

My winter skin ritual with evanhealy is like taking myself on a mini spa date right in my own bathroom. I start with a few pumps of Blue Lavender Cleansing Milk and rub it between my hands. Before even putting it on my face, I hold my hands close and breathe in the calming aroma of the most exquisite lavender. I gently rub it on, and I don’t fuss about taking it off too quickly – it is so rich and emollient that I don’t have to worry about it having a drying effect.

After rinsing the Cleansing Milk off, I apply 4-5 sprays of the Rose Petal Facial Tonic Hydrosoul for a different kind of floral experience. My absolute favourite part comes next: With the Hydrosoul still damp, I put a few drops of Pomegranate Repair Serum onto my fingers. I especially like this serum during the transition months because it helps to brighten and repair any sun damage I may have sustained from the months before. I gently press my fingers around my face, taking a moment to remind myself to breathe deeply. A little earthy-aromatic facial massage can go a long way!

When I really want to make it a spa date, I begin this whole process by running a bath and sinking in with the French Rose Clay Mask, which helps to brighten my winter complexion. I used to joke that the complexion that I go for during the winter months is “off-paste,” but I’m pleased to say that that joke can now go firmly into retirement with my evanhealy winter skin ritual!
