A Letter From our CEO Bruce Beacham: Addressing COVID-19

A Letter From our CEO Bruce Beacham: Addressing COVID-19

SEVENTH UPDATE: OCTOBER 9, 2020

To our Goodness Me! Community,

Here at Goodness Me! we prioritize the health and well-being of all team members and customers. To help control the spread of COVID-19, effective today we are requiring that all customers wear facial coverings while visiting any Goodness Me! location*.

Masks are mandatory, however customers with medical exemptions are always welcome to shop in our store.

If you are unable to wear a mask we will happily do your shopping for you, using our Curbside Pickup Program. Our team members are eager and ready to help in getting your healthy, delicious food to you in the safest manner possible. Visit www.goodnessme.ca to place your curbside order.

The decision for mandatory masks for all while shopping in-store has been made with customer and employee care and safety as a top priority, based on facts and science, and communicated with transparency. In following the direction of our government, we believe this is the most responsible way to move forward.

We are thankful for you, our Goodness Me! Community.

Stay Healthy,

Goodness Me! Leadership Team

SIXTH UPDATE: APRIL 17, 2020

Goodness Me! Community,

It has been said that “Change Brings Opportunity” and how true that statement is in our world today.   We are living in a time where things are changing around us constantly, and out of it has come some great opportunity for us to serve YOU better.

This past week we introduced a new Home Delivery for Seniors program to our Burlington community—and it has been a great success!  So successful, in fact, that we are excited to announce that effective Monday April 20, we will be offering this service to seniors that live within 10km of the following locations:

  • Goodness Me! Waterdown
  • Goodness Me! Upper Gage
  • Goodness Me! Locke Street
  • Goodness Me! Brantford
  • Goodness Me! Burlington

This Home Delivery is available to customers over the age of 60, who live within 10kms of the above Goodness Me! locations.  Free delivery on any order of $75 or more (including tax).  Find the Home Delivery link at www.goodnessme.ca as of Sunday morning, to place your full grocery order.

A few other things to note:

  • Curbside Pickup is buzzing!  Hundreds of orders are streaming into our inbox and we’re thrilled to be able to offer this contact-free service to you.  This week we allocated specific parking spots for when you come to collect your order—look for the green signs in the parking lot!
  • For those of you that can, we continue to encourage you to shop in our stores knowing that we are taking the necessary precautions to keep you safe and your cupboards full:
    • Full Shelves: Our team is doing a great job keeping our shelves fully stocked with healthy food.
    • Avoid Crowds:  We are maintaining our full store operating hours so we can minimize crowding.
    • Limiting Number of Customers in Store: We are limiting the number of shoppers in-store to give you the space you need.  We ask that you shop your full list for the week and if possible, come on your own.
    • Physical Distancing: With the help of our floor decals, Plexiglas shields at cash, and avoiding passing others in the aisles, you’re becoming experts at this—thank you!
    • Sanitizing Common Surfaces: We continue to make this a priority.
    • Washing Hands: Staff continue to wash their hands every 15 minutes.

We are privileged to continue to serve you, THANK YOU for your ongoing support,

SECOND UPDATE: MARCH 20, 2020

What a week it has been, since writing to you last Friday!  I do hope you are staying healthy.

Our Goodness Me! team is doing a remarkable job in continuing to serve in this critical, front line role through these challenging times.  While many people in other industries are being asked to stay home, our team, along with medical, pharmacy and other critical services, are being asked to come to work.  Yes, we are concerned about staying healthy, while remaining committed to serving in this time of need, and we are confident that you are eager to help us, as you shop at Goodness Me!

We have implemented many changes including washing hands, social distancing, sanitizing common surfaces, moving from self serve to pre-packaged, encouraging debit/credit, etc.

Our goals continue to be:

  • Protection of our staff and customers
  • Providing the essential service of making healthy products available for our customers
  • Understanding and caring for our staff

Protection by Social Distancing

  • We need your continued help on this one!
  • Please do your very best to maintain a 2 meter / 6-foot distance from others in the stores.
  • Have a friend shop for you if you should be self isolating.
  • We are not a mass retailer and do not have crowded stores, so we are not planning to limit the number of customers in the store.
  • For seniors who might want to shop with the least number of people in the store, we would recommend 8-9 AM.
  • We are not planning to reduce the number of store hours at this time as this would increase the number of customers/hour in the store.
  • We look forward to serving you, and again, please remember to help yourself and our staff by maintaining social distancing.

Providing an Essential Service

  • We are here for you and your family!
  • Our people are choosing to come to work for you.
  • They are taking all precautions to minimize the risk to ourselves and you.
  • We appreciate you encouraging and thanking our staff for their dedication to serving during these challenging times

Understanding and Caring for our Staff

  • We are listening to and understanding the concerns of our staff.
  • As mentioned above, we are planning to stay open for our full store hours, which gives our staff the opportunity to continue to earn their full compensation.  This is not available to many others during this time.
  • We are also providing a free meal daily for each person working in our stores.
  • In addition, we are providing for our store staff, 50% off our hot and cold bar items that they can take home.
  • Finally, while we are encouraging our staff to follow Canadian health authority guidance as they serve, we do not force anyone to work.

Thank you for your continued confidence and trust in the Goodness Me! team.  Stay safe.  Talk to you soon.

FIRST UPDATE: March 13th, 2020

To our Goodness Me! Community,

Our hearts go out to all who have been affected by the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19).

At Goodness Me! health has always been at the forefront of our business, and we want to continue to support our customers and our staff in their pursuit of good health & well-being during this time.

I wanted to personally reach out to you and provide an update on the actions that Goodness Me! is taking to help prevent the spread of the virus.   We are actively following the lead of Canadian public health authorities at this important time and have taken the following precautionary measures:

  • Increased Routine Cleaning: Increased sanitization of common areas such as countertops, cash lanes, and bathroom door handles.  Hand & Cart Sanitization stations have been set up at the front entrance of all of our stores.

  • Prioritizing Good Hygiene Practices:  Implementing continuous reminders about good hygiene practices and supporting our staff with the necessary resources.

  • Suspending All Food and Beverage Sampling In-Store: Effective immediately, all food and beverage sampling in stores have stopped until further notice.

  • Suspending Educational Programs In-Store:  Effective immediately in-store programs have been canceled and our team is ramping up webinars so we can continue to stay connected and educate our community.

  • Safer Storage for Prepared Foods: Relocating bakery items thus removing self-serve options.

  • Staying Informed: Closely monitoring the situation, and regularly providing all of our store staff with the most up-to-date safety guidelines, as recommended by Health Canada and other health officials.

The health and well-being of our community have been our priority for the past 39 years and will remain our mission over the days and weeks to come.   We will continue to provide information about the steps we are taking to address this rapidly evolving situation.

Stay Healthy,

Bruce Beacham
