Description

Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.), a relative of ginger, is native to the tropical regions of Asia. This perennial plant contains the active component curcumin, a yellow pigment known for its anti-inflammatory properties that’s been incorporated into Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine for centuries.

Traditionally used in herbal medicine as a powerful source of antioxidants for the maintenance of good health, curcumin has shown to be very effective as a means of reducing inflammation in the body. Inflammation is often characterized by redness, swelling of tissues and significant pain. The leading causes of inflammation in modern times are stress and other environmental factors. Inflammation plays a key role in most chronic illnesses.

As an anti-inflammatory, turmeric may help regulate the processes in our bodies that are linked to inflammation – specifically related to the joints. In experimental models, studies have revealed that 500 mg of daily curcumin supplementation contributes to lower key inflammatory agents like T-kininogen and L-theostatin, which are associated with joint pain and inflammation. Clinical research further reinforces the notion that curcumin reduces inflammation related to edema, ulcerative colitis, and rheumatoid arthritis. As a result, curcumin is quickly gaining the reputation as an effective solution for athletes to reduce exercise-related inflammation.

Turmeric constituents include the three curcuminoids, the active components providing the medicinal properties of the turmeric plant. They are curcumin (diferuloylmethane—the primary constituent and the one responsible for its vibrant yellow colour), demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin. There are also volatile oils (tumerone, atlantone, and zingiberone), sugars, proteins, and resins. For maximum effect, combine with Black Pepper to enhance absorption.

Organika®’s Curcumin capsules are 100% vegetarian, formulated with high-quality turmeric and include a standardised extract that contains 95% curcuminoids. This powerful metabolic compound has strong anti-inflammatory effects and is regarded as a potent and powerful antioxidant.
