Take your hot chocolate to the next level with a homemade vegan hot chocolate bomb! A fun experience for both kids and adults, hot chocolate bombs are fun and delicious. Make your own vegan hot chocolate bomb with simple ingredients!
Prepare two 6 x 2.5" sphere molds on a parchment lined baking sheet, and set aside.
Melt chocolate chips (with coconut oil) in a double boiler over medium heat. Create a double boiler by placing an empty metal or glass bowl over a pot of boiling 2" depth water. The bottom of the bowl should not touch the water.
Stir the chocolate until it has melted to a smooth consistency, then place 1 tablespoon of chocolate in each half sphere mold. Spread the chocolate up the sides of each mold with the bottom of a small spoon, or use a clean, 1.5" wide paintbrush. Make sure you get the chocolate up to the edge!
Once molds are filled smooth, flip the mold face down onto the parchment lined baking sheet. Optional: This helps keep the chocolate from pooling at the bottom, and keeps it at the top!
Refrigerate for 10-15 mins, until solid.
Add a second thin (1/2 tbsp) layer of melted chocolate into the molds and return to fridge for 15-20 mins to cool completely.
Once chocolate is cooled solid, gently stretch the mold around the edge of each shape then gently push the chocolate shell up and out.
Using mason jars or small cups to hold each chocolate mold. Fill 6 molds each with one serving of hot chocolate mix, and add marshmallows, if desired.
Warm a plate in the oven, then carefully place the remaining chocolate sphere halves face down on the plate, one at a time. The edge will begin to melt. Remove the chocolate from the plate and carefully place on top of a filled chocolate sphere half. Repeat with remaining chocolate halves.
Decorate your bombs with chocolate drizzle, and add desired toppings.
Enjoying your hot chocolate bomb:
Heat desired non-dairy milk (we use So Fresh! Oat Milk) until steaming, Use the amount of milk instructed on hot chocolate package, or as desired!
Place a hot chocolate bomb into a large mug.
Slowly pour the hot milk over the bomb. After a few seconds, the bomb should "pop" open, releasing powder and marshmallows.
Stir as desired, as the chocolate melts into the milk.
