Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs

Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs

It’s that time of year again, and we figure we all may have a little time on our hands this holiday! What a perfect opportunity to sit down with the kids (or kids at heart) and dye your eggs for Easter! We have a short and easy guide to extracting colour from food found in your kitchen, and how to give those eggs a nice subtle hint of colour- naturally!

BLUE: 4 Cups Purple Cabbage, Chopped

PINK: 4 Cups Beets, Chopped

YELLOW: 3 Heaping Tablespoons Turmeric

ORANGE: 4 Cups Onion Skins (Outer Skin of Yellow Onions)

  1. Place in a pot, 1 quart of water and 2 tbsp vinegar, and the ingredients required for your colour choice.
  2. Bring to a boil, and then simmer for 30 minutes.
  3. Strain liquid and place in a bowl.
  4. Submerge desired amount of hard boiled eggs in the room temperature liquid, in the bowl.
  5. Leave soaking for 30 minutes. Rotate eggs gently, if needed.
Note: the longer you soak your eggs, the richer the colour.
  6. Remove and place on a rack to dry.
