Making Healthy Choices, Travel Essentials, & Keto Carbonated Drinks

On this week’s episode, Emily and Janet are discussing what Emily has been feeding Jane since she has hit the 7th month mark! Introducing your child to food can be an interesting time, but its all part of the parenting experience. Emily and Janet discuss baby lead weaning, what food Jane has been eating, how to introduce food to your baby, and the concerns of introducing dairy too early into your baby’s diet.

First Segment: Trending Topics

Does where you live effect your ability to make healthy choices? You may be thinking to yourself, “that’s ridiculous!” but its true according to a study Emily and Janet are looking at today! In this study, there were 4 key factors involved which included the price and availability of fresh fruits and vegetables, the price and availability of cigarettes and alcohol, the promotion of healthy foods in restaurants, and access to public transit. Emily and Janet look at these factors and how they could effect your ability to make healthy choices. As individuals, how can we be healthier in our day to day lives? Eating real, available foods, or incorporating them into dishes we cook, and overall educating and motivating ourselves to live a healthier life! If you’re looking for tools to educate yourself – you can look at Janet’s book “Discover the Power of Food” or check out Lifewatchers offered at multiple Goodness Me! Locations. Webinars for Lifewatchers will also be available at the end of January!

What’s For Dinner
27:12 – 28:14

Crispy Brussels Sprouts with Bacon & Red Pepper Jelly

  • 1 lb of Brussels sprouts halved or quartered depending on size
  • 4 slices of bacon chopped
  • A few spoonfuls of red pepper jelly
  1. Sauté the Brussels sprouts and bacon together until the bacon is crispy and the Brussels sprouts soften and crisp up slightly (I like to do this in my cast iron pan but any pan will work)
  2. At the end spoon a few spoonfuls of red pepper jelly and stir through for a subtle sweet and spicy kick!
  3. If you have any leftover they taste great the next day!
