The Great Canadian Burger with Blue Cheese & Bacon

Canada Day is upon us--and so is the grilling season! We took this opportunity to combine these two reasons to celebrate into one delicious recipe: The Great Canadian Burger... complete with a truly Canadian ingredient!

Instead of getting store-bought burgers this grilling season, try making your own at home. The benefits of homemade burgers, like any homemade food, are tremendous. You can control the quality of meat being used, what ingredients go into the burger, how it tastes, and how big you want them to be.

We recommend using all natural, free range, antibiotic free ground beef (or organic--even better!). This way, you are getting pure, naturally-raised meat without any of the toxic additives that you don't want on your plate. We carry a range of options at Goodness Me! The recipe we have below uses this beef, and also gluten free breadcrumbs to make it friendly for those avoiding gluten. What else do we add? Garlic, onion, egg, and salt. That's it. 6 ingredients. No preservatives, no additives, no chemicals.

We took this basic burger recipe a step further to make it the great Canadian burger, using proudly Canadian-inspired ingredients for a delicious end product that is sure to be a hit on Canada Day (or any time of year!). Try making our Great Canadian Burger this weekend or on Canada Day, and let us know what you think!

BASIC BURGER RECIPE
1lb free range ground beef
1/4 cup gluten free breadcrumbs
1/2 tsp coarse sea salt
1 clove minced organic garlic
1/2 cup minced organic onion
1 egg

FOR GREAT CANADIAN BURGERS, ADD:
1/4 cup finely chopped organic red pepper
1/4 cup finely chopped organic green onion
1 cup crumbled blue cheese
1/4 cup sliced bacon

Mix together ingredients for basic burger recipe. Add ingredients for the Great Canadian Burger recipe, or mix together a few of each kind. Grill on a barbecue on medium heat, remove when cooked, and top with your favourite topping, such as organic ketchup or mustard, pickles, hummus, onions, tomato, lettuce, avocado, or others. Serve and enjoy!

NOTE: If you don't want to make the Canadian Burger, you can use the Basic Burger recipe and mix in any ingredients you'd like to make your own creation!
